very remote from any town. public transport links are poor so you feel stuck
We visited just a few days after it reopened after a 4 month shutdown for refurbishment. The place itself is very pleasant in a lovely setting in the village of Manuden. The new manager was very welcoming and was happy to spend time with us explaining the recent history. Sadly, the range of beers on offer was very limited, which we were told was due to the recent reopening and would be added to later in the day. Adams Ghost Ship was acceptable, just not particularly special, whereas the Guinness was undrinkable. The manager explained that this was due to an accumulation of yeast in the pipes as he hadn't been selling much and the pipes needed regular flushing, which hadn't been done for a while. Unacceptable just the same.The food was very good, and the quantities more than adequate. In this respect the pub deserves an above average score.Overall, I'd rate it average, but am sure that given time it will improve and become a regular haunt.
AWFUL DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Filthy, nobody there, pub boarded up and completely unsafe. Keys hung on exterior wall. We weep unable to stay here and booked elsewhere. SHOCKING!
Very unhappy to turn up at the yew tree with an afternoon tea booked to see that it is closed for refurb! No one contacted us regarding this.
Lovely pub but run be kids sham it could be a little gold mind in the right hands . Rooms need a good clean. floors need a clean. Kettle needs a clean. Windows. Bathroom floor need a good clean. Mirror. The list go's on. My daughter is a manageress in a club she was shocked with it all.
